Not a few tourists on holiday on Boracay are being repelled by the emergence of excessive green, slimy algae marring the shoreline of the world-famous island in Malay, Aklan. Since the start of the summer season last month, both Filipino and foreign tourists have been heard expressing fears that they may get skin allergies if they get in the water. For sure, the fine white flour-like sand on the beach here still glimmers, and seawater off the beach is still an alluring aquamarine hue. But before one can get to soak in such waters, one first has to swim or wade through the shallows clogged with algal muck. Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-6) has issued assurances that coastal waters surrounding the island are not hazardous.en
