    Excerpt
The satellite images included the artificial island built by China in Gaven Reef (Burgos Reef) as well as its possible military base on Fiery Cross Reef (Kagitingan Reef). Del Rosario pointed out that China’s massive relocation reclamation “threatened to militarize the region, infringe on the rights of other states and damage the marine environment.” China’s reclamation has resulted to coral reef destruction costing more than $100 million losses to countries around the area based on the country’s presentation given to the ASEAN foreign ministers.
