Five individuals and institutions in Iloilo were recently honored here for their efforts in environmental awareness and protection and their achievements in projects supportive of the environment. Recognized as this year's Green Guardian Awardees were Dr. Jurgenne H. Primavera, scientist emeritus with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre (SEAFDEC)'s Aquaculture Department, Dr. Rex Sadaba of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UP Visayas), Uswag Calajunan Livelihood Association (UCLA) Inc., Orchard Valley Inc., and the Iloilo-Batiano River Development Council. Primavera and Sadaba were awarded for their advocacy in saving mangroves in Panay and Guimaras Islands.
