The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is taking a more stringent approach in implementing the Philippine Fisheries Code in a bid to curb and address illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. Republic Act (RA) 10654 or an Act that prevents, deter and eliminates IUU fishing, amended RA 8550, otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code 1998. BFAR national director Asis Perez said the amendments to the Fisheries Code would further ensure the protection of the country’s marine and aquatic resources.en
