The coastline was uplifted, or emerged, after the powerful earthquake in Bohol in 2013. According to DENR-Bohol Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Nestor Canda, the declaration of Loon-Maribojoc uplifted coast as national geological monument provides for further studies of elevated coral reef deposits and other marine species.en
