Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Western Visayas (DENR-6) Regional Director Jim Sampulna, said the project will cover Yolanda-devastated mangrove areas in Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental provinces. “We are aiming at planting 2,747 hectares of mangrove and beach forests in the region to fortify our coastal defense against future storm surges,” said Sampulna. Sampulna said the rehabilitation project is part of the Mangrove and Beach Forest Development Project, which is a component of DENR’s National Greening Program (NGP).
