The Philippine government may seek provisional measures that compel China to cease its reclamation project in the West Philippine Sea should the arbitration tribunal at The Hague decide to acquire jurisdiction of the case, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima said yesterday. De Lima, who returned to the country Thursday night from the Netherlands, confirmed that the government team handling the case is considering the suggestion of Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Antonio Carpio to seek provisional relief before the UN Tribunal on the Law of the Sea. It would be recalled that Carpio made the suggestion, citing Article 290 (1) of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).en
