The Department of Agriculture (DA) has signed the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the amended Philippines Fisheries Code, which reinforces the safeguarding of the country's seas from illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. The 89-page IRR provisions on Republic Act (RA) 10654 or the act that amended RA 8550, otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 was signed last September 22. It is the result of the 20-day drafting process, which was participated in by commercial fishing companies, government organizations, academe, non-government organization (NGOs) and fisherfolk representatives.en
