    Excerpt
The West Philippine Sea has become more than a disputed body of water. It has become a daily reminder that geopolitical conflicts are never confined to maps or diplomatic negotiations. While governments debate maritime claims, it is ordinary Filipinos—particularly fishermen—who bear the immediate consequences. For many coastal communities, the sea is more than a national boundary. It is a workplace, a source of food, and the foundation of their livelihood. Yet reports of fishermen being prevented from accessing traditional fishing grounds have become increasingly common. Every restricted fishing trip means fewer catches, lower incomes, and greater uncertainty for families that rely on the sea for survival.
