    Excerpt
The Philippines must immediately adopt sustainable fishing practices given its heavy reliance on fish for food and livelihood, according to a nongoverment organization. Oceana senior adviser Michael Hirshfield said the adoption of sustainable practices will secure the country’s food supply and ensure economic stability. “Why the Philippines? They catch a lot of fish, they eat a lot of fish, a lot of people are dependent on fish,” he said during Oceana’s 10th anniversary event.
