The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is conducting an investigation to determine an unknown toxin that might have been present in crabs and had caused the death of a couple in Naujan town, this province. The crabs in question, eaten by spouses Romulo Evora, 61, and Cristeta, 59, were reportedly caught near a discharge site of a still-to-be-constructed multi-million geothermal power plant owned by energy giant, Emerging Power, Inc. (EPI). Ruben J. Jardin, BFAR Region 4-B (Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) officer-in-charge, said results of a medical examination on the fatalities are still being awaited.en
