The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) aquaculture department substation in Batan, Aklan, is boosting aquaculture research and development in Northern Panay, widely recognized as the country's main prawn production center. Mainly utilized as a prawn spawner, collection point for research in 1976, the station has grown into an important field laboratory and training facility of aquaculture department due to its strategic location.
