Group asks BFAR to rethink 'unlawful' fisheries program
Excerpt
International advocacy organization Oceana urged the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to reconsider its proposed program that will allow the entry of commercial fishing vessels in areas of municipal waters that municipal fishers cannot reach. Oceana said BFAR’s “Big Brother Small Brother Partnership” (BBSBP) is “unlawful” and is based on “obsolete” data on fisheries. Under the proposed program, small and medium commercial fishing vessels (CFV) would be allowed to operate between 10.1 kilometers and 15 kilometers from the shoreline.
