Industry stakeholders are asking President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. to urgently certify the bill creating the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DFAR) to maximize the fish industry’s potential to solve the twin problems of malnutrition and rising food prices. At a press conference on Monday, Finfish Hatcheries Inc. assistant vice president for sales Renato Bocaya said a separate entity will help prioritize the fisheries sector and secure an additional budget for its growth. “We need the full support of the government so we can harness the full potential of the sector, especially now that food prices are high,” Bocaya told reporters.
