With the ablation technique for prawns already refined and widely used by fishfarmers, aquaculture scientists are now examining the thesis that a similar manipulation of the sex glands (gonad) of milkfish could speed up ovulation, fertilization, and spawning. But unlike the ablation system which primarily involves the crushing of the eyestalk of the prawn, the technique being looked into for milkfish calls for the implanting of testosterone capsules or pellets in the body of the sabalo (mother milkfish).
