    Excerpt
Soil is an important factor in fishpond productivity because of its ability to absorb and release the plant nutrients needed by phytoplankton which is the natural food of fish. It is the main and most economical source of dike-building materials. Furthermore, the quality of the water is highly affected by the nature of the pond soil.
