A naturalized Filipino citizen of Korean descent has been saved from prison by a Supreme Court resolution written by Associate Justice Teodoro Padilla and concurred in by Associate Justices Ameurfina A. Melencio-Herrera, Edgardo Paras, Abraham Sarmiento, and Florenz D. Regalado. Saved from a prison term when the Supreme Court reconsidered its resolution denying a petition for review of a Court of Appeals' decision that affirmed a lower court verdict was Yong Cham Kim, a researchers at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center's (Seafdec) aquaculture department, a multinational entity established by a number of states in Southeast Asia, with head station in Tigbauan, Iloilo.
