The lapu-lapu or grouper is a high-value marine fin fish that is abundant in the country. This fish has 40 different varieties and it accounts for about 2% of annual Philippine fish catch. According to the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (Seafdec), this is equivalent to more than 40,000 metric tons of grouper.
