Ulysses' damage to agriculture could top ₱1 billion

Thousands of farmers and fishermen in Quezon province and Bicol region are reeling from further losses after another typhoon, Ulysses, hit the country. This, while the combined damage of Typhoon Quinta and Super Typhoon Rolly to the farm sector already rose to nearly P9 billion. Based on the latest data from the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), the total damage and losses the agriculture sector incurred due to Typhoon Ulysses already rose to P969.8 million, from the previously reported P124 million. The number of affected farmers and fishermen stood at 40,519 farmers, while 51,241 hectares of agricultural areas and 57,897 metric tons (MT) of farm products were damaged.
