Shellfish and "alamang" (Acetes sp.) from some areas in Masbate, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Misamis Occidental remain unsafe for human consumption due to red tide toxin, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) warned on Wednesday. Based on the latest laboratory results conducted by BFAR and the concerned local government units (LGUs), shellfish collected at Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte and Misamis Occidental; and coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate are "still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit." BFAR Director Asis Perez advised fishermen and residents not to harvest, sell, buy, and eat all kinds of shellfish and alamang collected from these areas.
