A new environment-friendly shrimp farming technology promises to be the silver lining in the dark clouds that have been mantling the country's moribund shrimp industry for about a decade. The technology, which uses the so-called low-discharge and close-recirculating system, was developed by the government-hosted, Tigbauan, Iloilo-based Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQD) through its Technology Verification Section (TVS). It is an offshoot of current efforts to avert the total collapse of the shrimp industry brought about by the dread luminous bacteria spawned by its "self-generated pollution."en
