Like in other bodies of inland waters, occasional fish kill may likely occur at the famous Taal Lake this summer because of the recurrence of El Niño phenomenon and the unprecedented changing of temperature in the lake water, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Last week, incidents of fish kills were noticed where dead tilapia and milkfish have begun to float in fresh waters because of low levels of dissolved oxygen caused by the dry spell. But had the provincial government not taken the will to save the lake from illegal fish pens, massive fish kill may have happened because of situation and undecomposed feeds that deplete the lake with oxygen, the Task Force on Taal Lake reported earlier.en
