A new species of freshwater crab was discovered last year in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. The Sundathelphusa miguelito crab is "very likely to be endemic in Mindanao, and further study," says Jose C. E. Mendoza, a lecturer at the National University f Singapore who, with Emerson Sy of the Philippine Center for Terrestrial and Aquatic Research, made the discovery. The edible crab, characterized by shorter claws, is the fifth species of freshwater crabs discovered in Mindanao.
