Lake Sebu town has been placed under a state of calamity due to the recent massive fish kill that cost P124.5 million damage to fishery, mainly tilapia farms. In a statement released by the South Cotabato provincial government, Lake Sebu Mayor Antonio B. Fungan said they are now conducting a cleanup drive to eradicate the stink caused by dead fish and clearing of water hyacinths at the lake. A P500,000 initial fund has been allotted for the cleanup. Mr. Fungan also said that they are looking into the recommendations set by the Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist on how to resolve the problem of the overcrowded lake and avoid a repeat of the fish kill.en
