Oceana supports BFAR in pushing sustainable management of fisheries

National and local government units (LGUs) have committed to do their part to strengthen sustainable fisheries management in the Philippines. “We’re starting 2021 with renewed hope for our oceans and our artisanal fisherfolk with national and local governments committing to the effective interventions for sustainable fisheries management,” Gloria Estenzo Ramos, vice president of international nongovernment organization (NGO) Oceana, said in a statement. “We look forward to sustained funding and technical support to local Fisheries Management Bodies that are mandated to monitor fishing activities and sustainably manage our fisheries which enhances tremendously the livelihoods of our people dependent on a healthy ocean,” she added.
