The continued use of crushed dolomite to enhance the shores of Manila Bay will remain an option amid the environmental issues surrounding its extraction from a town in Cebu. Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, in a visit in the town of Alcoy on Friday, said that while the dolomite that now covered a portion of the Manila Baywalk was “enough for now,” it was because they were still dredging some parts of the bay and not because they had totally disregarded the use of the crushed white carbonate rock. “We will just cover some portions [of the Manila Baywalk] with regular sand before covering it further with crushed dolomite,” said Cimatu who visited Alcoy town in Cebu province on Friday to inspect the site where tons of dolomite were being mined.en
