    Excerpt
For the first time in the Philippines, the technology to raise abalone in cages is now being adopted by a local fishing community. This is taking place in a far-flung island barangay of Isla de Gigantes in Carles, Iloilo. The HMMMPC (Hugpong sand Magagmay nga Mangingisda Multi Purpose Cooperative) in collaboration with Southeast Asain Fisheries Development Center/Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) and Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPC) in Estancia has embarked on the culture of abalone - a high value commodity, as a new livelihood venture.
