The country's production of mud crab is keeping its steady increase of about 200 metric tons annually since 1997. Record from the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) showed that mud crab production reached 4,608 metric tons in 2001. Technology Verification Section head Dan Baliao of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC-AQD) here said the mud crab is now recognized as a good candidate among other species for culture at a suitable impounded environment.en
