An algal bloom triggered two fish kills at the Sapian Bay in Capiz, the director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 6 said. The fish kills were discovered on Dec. 28, 2015, and Jan. 3 this year. Once in a bloom, algal excretes ammonia that, when accumulated may kill fish, Remia Apari explained. But the phenomenon was "nontoxic," she said.
