Idle fishponds in negros Occidental were being eyed for mangrove reforestation, non-government organization (NGO) leaders said yesterday. The province has 16,375 hectares (ha.) of fishponds, Josephine Abares of the Zoological Society of London (ZLS) Philippine Country Office said at a press conference for a regional forum here. Of the total area, 9,860 ha were titled, 3,138 ha were covered by a fishpond lease agreement (FLA) AND 3,378 ha have tax declarations, she said.
