DENR, PCG release pawikan to habitat
Excerpt
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-6 and the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo released a green sea turtle back to its natural habitat recently. DENR-6 regional executive director Jim Sampulna and PCG-Iloilo station commander Lt. Col. Dominador Senador led the release of the marine turtle, which was trapped in the waters off Sitio Lusaran, Brgy. La Paz, Nueva Valencia in Guimaras. The release of the turtle, which carapace measures 63 cm in length and 60 cm in width, commemorates the 24th anniversary of Taklong Island National Marine Reserve, which was institutionalized thru Presidential Proclamation No. 525, dated Feb. 8, 1996, and was signed by former president Fidel V. Ramos.
