Drought batters La Unions's fishpond industry
Excerpt
The aquaculture sector here is expected to lose money during summer as drought worsens in the province, said an official. “There are 117 hectares of fishponds sowed with bangus, native tilapia and shrimps in five barangays the city, 100 hectares are already without water,” said Dolores Gurtiza, of the city agriculture office. She said pond operators have sought the help of Mayor Pablo Ortega and the provincial capitol.
