    Excerpt
The Philippine crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis) is among the local species categorized in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species as “critically endangered,” with its population in the wild estimated at between 92 and 137 in 2012. Its shrinking population has been attributed to loss of habitat and active human poaching driven by consumer demand for exotic leather. But hope is not lost for the survival of this fearsome reptile.
