BFAR-Region 2 enforces crab-saving measures
Excerpt
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) has rolled out two measures expected to conserve and protect crab and lobster species in the region. Milagros Morales, BFAR-Region 2 director, said the bureau vowed to enforce Fisheries Administrative Orders 264 and 265 to regulate the exploitation and trade of mangrove crabs (Scylla spp.) and spiny lobster (Palinuridae), respectively. Morales said FAO 264 prohibits the catching, possession, transport, trade and selling of mangrove crablets and crab juvenile from the wild that are less than 12 centimeters (cm) in carapace width (CW).
