In a statement, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said his department was expecting fish supply to increase with the lifting of the closed fishing season in major fishing areas and the peak of fishing activities in the second quarter. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources projects that at the end of the second quarter, the country will have an 11-day surplus equivalent to 101,792 metric tons (MT), with a supply of 934,920 MT exceeding demand of 833,128 MT by 12.2 percent. Philippine Fisheries Development Authority General Manager Glen Pangapalan said operations in nine major fish ports continued to meet demand and fish prices remained stable. | en |
