    Excerpt
Roxas City, Capiz – The carcass of a “butanding” or whale shark was found floating by fishermen Monday morning near Libas fishing port here. A concerned citizen informed Libas village chief Dhonyl Alisasis about the find. According to Alisasis, the whale shark was more or less 25.5 feet long and weighed 3 to 4 tons. Because of its weight, three fishing boats had to drag the whale shark to the fishing port. “There was an indication that the fishermen tried to butcher the whale shark”, he said. The Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources is set to determine the whale shark’s cause of death before burying its carcass.
