The Philippines expects to meet farm growth target for this year on the back of strong production from corn, rice and fisheries subsectors, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Thursday. Meanwhile, the DA chief also noted that the fisheries subsector continued to improve with the opening of fisheries areas-including the sardine grounds off the coast of Zamboanga del Norte and the High Seas Pocket 1. In the first half of 2012, the fisheries subsector, which accounts for 18 to 20 percent of total farm output, contracted by 3.33 percent.
