    Excerpt
A cargo ship ran aground and damaged a large group of coral reefs in the waters off Barangay Poblacion 4, Calatagan, Batangas, on Sunday morning. Jessie delos Reyes, Bantay-Dagat head of Calatagan and Conserve and Protect Ocean Foundation project coordinator, said MV Hummer 1 ran aground at about 2 a.m. Sunday due to human error. Delos Reyes said the ship’s captain failed to set the global positioning system on the right tract, so the vessel hit the corals. The incident damaged coral reefs estimated to be 200 meters long and 75 meters wide, he said, based on their underwater survey conducted Sunday afternoon.
