The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) here bared measures to be undertaken soonest to mitigate the effects of El Niño on fisheries and other marine resources in Aklan. The action plan is centered on assisting freshwater fishpond owners and oyster/mussels raisers involving short-term interventions to help mitigate the effects of El Niño. According to Alice Robelo of BFAR-Aklan, the province of Aklan has some 25 hectares threatened fishpond areas.
