Darwin Uy, 13, has never seen a live dolphin but he hopes to get his chance. Uy, a sophomore of Hermosa National High School, said he doesn’t want to see dolphins in an amusement park, like most people do, but in their natural habitats because “they are already endangered, and people should know that.” “Capturing them should be made illegal,” he said. Both teenagers, including a growing number of people from all walks of life, have become part of a movement that was sparked by a 34-year-old painter, A.G. Saño. Saño said he was introduced to the advocacy by the awardwinning documentary feature, “The Cove,” which exposed the ‘For dolphins, captivity is really a death sentence ...’ annual herding and slaughter of some 23,000 dolphins at the Taiji Cove in Japan.
