In a bid to save the deteriorating Iloilo River thru active public participation, the Iloilo River Development Council (IRDC) is launching the "Operation Bantay Suba" this Sunday. As early as two years ago, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 6 warned that the Iloilo Rive is dying, pointing to the discharges from commercial establishments, hotels, hospitals and households as the culprits. The launching will start with a "walk for a cause" this January 17 "to encourage Ilonggos to be more concerned and participative about the river's plight," said Mayor Jerry Treñas, IRDC chairman.
