There was a time when Laguna de Bay was the pride and joy of residents not only for its beauty but because of the benefits people got from the lake itself. But 40 years of uncontrolled peripheral activities and man-made developments within the lake has turned this body of water into a solid testament to man's abuse of nature. "The lake is still classified as C, although attempts during previous years to elevate [its status] to B were and remain hampered by the concentration of large fish cages in the area which we are now addressing," said Laguna Lake Development Authority general manager Edgar Manda.
