    The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday tasked its representative to the United Nations (UN) to acquire information regarding China's submission of claims over the disputed islands in the East China Sea. Japan also claims the islands, particularly Diaoyu Island, in the region. Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said that the Philippine government should first understand the basis of the uncharacteristic move from Beijing.
