DENR, SEAFDEC release Olive ridley sea turtle
Excerpt
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-6 and Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) recently released an Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) sea turtle at SEAFDEC AQD beach in Tigbauan, Iloilo.
Tigbauan resident, Rogelio Sanchez captured the sea turtle at Brgy. Baguingin, April 5. Sanchez turned the sea creature to the local government unit of Tigbauan, which turned over the reptile to SEAFDEC.
Prior to the release, it was tagged in the right front leg with PH1017G by the SEAFDEC Fish World staff assisted by the CENRO Wildlife Resource Permitting Unit staff. An Inconel tag was used since it is the most durable of all the materials used for tagging. This can only be sourced from the DENR offices, where the tag codes are encoded and used in their database.
