The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) in Tigbauan, Iloilo, has accepted the global challenge to help feed 9 billion people by 2050. SEAFDEC/AQD Chief Dan Baliao said that the center has intensified promotion of its aquaculture development activities to help meet the challenge. The SEAFDEC/AQD noted that aquatic food production has transitioned from being primarily based on capture or wild fish to culturing the increasing numbers of farmed species. A milestone was reached when in 2014 the aquaculture sector’s contribution to the supply of fish for human consumption overtook that of wild-caught fish.en
