The Department of Agriculture (DA) said the Philippines bats for the prohibition of certain forms of fisheries subsidies that encourage overfishing. DA Secretary William Dar said the Philippines is maintaining this position under the proposed fishery subsidies agreement in the World Trade Organization (WTO). Dar yesterday met with Philippine ambassador to the WTO Manuel Antonio Teehankee to tackle the matter ahead of the continuation of negotiations on the agreement at the 12th Ministerial Conference in Kazakhstan in June.
