    Excerpt
As part of the observance of Environment Month 2019, a Janitor Fish Extraction Contest was held at the Marapong Creek in Pili, Camarines Sur. The creek is one of the main tributaries of the river system in Bicol, a region that produced 257,061 metric tons of fish in 2018, based on the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2018 Fisheries Situation Report. Forty people from four barangays participated in the challenge, extracting 72.35 kilos of janitor fish, considered an “invasive alien species” that threatens the fish industry.
