The Supreme Court's Writ of Kalikasan is a relatively new item in the judiciary's arsenal of weapons, along with the Writ of Amparo. This writ or court order is seldom used, and most of the time the Supreme Court issues this to compel the executive branch to do its mandate to clean up the environment and enforce ecological conservation. One of the most popular Writs of Kalikasan, the one that remains in the public's consciousness, is the 2008 SC directive to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to rehabilitate Manila Bay in 10 years.
