Sardine fishing banned in R-9 until December
Excerpt
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will lift its three-month ban on sardine-fishing in conservation areas of the Zamboanga Peninsula on December 1, according to a top official of the agency. BFAR Region 9 Director Isidro Velayo Jr. over the weekend announced that the move is in consonance with BFAR Administrative Circular (BAC) 255 or the “Establishment of Closed Season for the Conservation of Sardines within the territorial waters of Zamboanga Peninsula Bay, East Sulu Sea and Basilan Strait.” Region 9 is composed of the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay and the cities of Dapita, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga.
