The two common pathogens in marine and freshwater environments known to scientists as Vibrio spp. and Aeromonas spp. are resistant to antibiotics widely used in aquaculture feeds. This was shown in a survey using bacterial isolates collected from fish and shrimp tissues and rearing waters in farms and hatcheries on Panay Island. Researchers Eduardo Leaño of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Ian Macrae of Aquatic Animal Health Research Institute, Thailand, and Valerie Inglis of United Kingdom's University of Stirling jointly conducted the survey.en
